Procrastination is a top of challenge for entrepreneurs. What you probably didn’t know is procrastination, when used effectively, is a key performance improvement strategy. We associate procrastination with poor time management skills or work ethic but it is a secret weapon for getting the most important tasks done first. It becomes a problem when we procrastinate on the important things and work on the unimportant.
We all do it. The big project for an important client that sits on the corner of the desk or the difficult conversation we need to have with a co-worker, boss or client are just a few examples. I’m sure there are many more. We know we eventually have to deal with the issue but we repeatedly convenience ourselves that we’ll work on it tomorrow. A whole string of tomorrows turns into weeks and months. Eventually, the situation moves to a sense of urgency and we have no other choice but to “Just Do It”.
Once it is all over and we finally do what we should have done weeks ago, we get that great sense of relief from accomplishing the task.
